According to reports, St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was shot twice in the head Tuesday night in Miami as he was sitting in a car with several family members.

He will have surgery Wednesday morning, but it looks like he’ll survive.

Rams statement: “We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening,” the team said in a statement. “We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

The driver of the vehicle was shot many times as he tried to protect children in the vehicle. His injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

Bailey, currently serving a 4-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, totaled 12 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown  before the ban.
