Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman fired back at Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie’s assertion that Sherman is nowhere close to being the best corner in the league.
“Go follow the No. 1 receiver. Follow him around for a whole entire game and let’s see what you can do. Darrelle Revis has done that his whole career. I’ve done that. Patrick Peterson has done it. Joe Haden has done it. [Sherman] is the only defensive back that hasn’t. If you want to label yourself as the No. 1 corner, the best corner in the NFL, follow the best guy on every single team,” Cromartie said last week.
After all, if Sherman and the Seahawks weren’t preparing for the Super Bowl against the Patriots, Cromartie never would have been selected to the Pro Bowl as an alternate.
Sherman, in his response, was more than quick to remind him of that.
“That was unfortunate. You would think after me helping him [Cromartie] get a Pro Bowl bid [for the 2014 season] … We went to the Super Bowl and he wouldn’t have made it to the Pro Bowl otherwise. And now he’s talking bad,” Sherman said, via ESPN.
“I guess when you’re doing something great you’re always going to have naysayers and detractors. They just need an excuse for why we’re great and why we have so much success. They have to give themselves some credibility somewhere.”
