New Hampshire Motor Speedway exec charged with lewdness

Manchester, NH police say New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens was arrested last week after being found in his car doing lewd things with a 19-year-old woman.

Detectives watched as the female entered Gappens’ SUV; then they followed the car into a parking lot where the peep show began. They “allegedly observed an act of lewdness take place in the vehicle.’’ He’s appropriately been charged with lewdness, a misdemeanor.

Not sure what the lewd act was, but it probably had something to do with the young woman’s head somewhere close to his lap, if I were to put my money on it. And yes, the woman, Kendra Johnson, is likely a lady of the evening… I’m just guessing – don’t quote me that. Or perhaps it was just an innocent meet up between two friends and he was showing her his new stick shift.

Gappens, 53, who resides in Bedford, N.H. with his wife Lucy and has 3 children, is scheduled to appear in 9th Circuit Court on Feb. 25. Kendra Johnson, 19, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26, per Motorsports Talk. His employer, Speedway Motorsports Inc., had no comment on the matter.

“Mr. Gappens acknowledges using poor judgment that has resulted in a misdemeanor charge that is both embarrassing and devastating to him and his family, and for that, he sincerely apologizes,” his attorney, Tom Reed said in a statement. “He regrets his actions. While he made a bad decision, he did not, in my opinion, engage in conduct that violates the referenced statute or any other criminal law. Mr. Gappens cooperated fully with the police, and we hope to have this difficult situation resolved soon.”
