I can’t put my finger on it, but something tells me former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is not an avid supporter of Cleveland Browns rookie QB Johnny Manziel.
While head coach Mike Pettine went back on his word to name a starting QB on Tuesday, Boomer has some indirect advice for the 1st-year coach: Johnny Football is not the guy to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in week one.
“[Manziel is] not even remotely close to being ready,” Esiason said on of his WFAN morning show. “If he opened as the starting quarterback at Pittsburgh in Week 1, he would get his ass kicked.”
Boomer also explained that teams already ‘hate’ Manziel and Steelers LBs are chomping at the bit to destroy him.
“If I were Mike Pettine, I would have to have my head examined to put that kid on the field,” he added, while mocking Manziel’s “wreck this league” draft-night txt to Pettine:
“You’re gonna get wrecked son.”
