Archer, Rays peeved at Ortiz’s stare down, bat flip

We have another Red Sox-Rays problem it appears. These two just can’t seem to get along as they battle for best of the worst teams in the AL East.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz helped his team end the Rays’ 9-game winning streak Sunday night with a 3-run shot off of Chris Archer in 3rd inning, staring him down with a pronounced bat flip.

Archer said after the game the gestures weren’t appreciated, prompting some harsh words from Big Papi.

“He’s not the right guy to be saying that, I don’t think,” Ortiz said, via the Associated Press / USA TODAY Sports.

He’s got two days in the league,” he added along with a few expletives for good measure.

“I don’t know what makes him think that he can showboat the way he does, and then nobody retaliates,” Archer said. “Nobody looks at him in a funny way or pitches him inside. I don’t know why he feels like that, but obviously he feels the way David (Price) said he does – he feels like he’s bigger than the game. He feels like the show is all about him.”
