One lucky fan is now the proud owner of a piece of New York Jets history, the famous ‘butt fumble’ jersey worn by then-Jets QB Mark Sanchez during the absolute low point of his career on a brisk Thanksgiving night in 2012 against the New England Patriots.
California’s Jake Hendrickson saw the posting for the jersey on the NFL auctions website last week, and hoped to get the jersey to mainly keep it of the wrong hands for further ridicule.
A whopping $820 later, the jersey is his and his alone:
“The second I realized what it was I knew I had to have it. Almost for macabre reasons; the amount of ridicule I have received from friends regarding that play and me being a diehard Jets fan out in California especially,” Hendrickson told Yahoo! Sports. “There’s no way I could let it get in the hands of an anti-fan or something of that manner to be shoved in our face.”
