On Saturday, Tony Stewart and Danica Patrick blew their engines during a Daytona 500 practice, reports the Associated Press, via Yahoo! Sports.
On top of two blown engines for the Stewart-Haas Racing teammates, HScott Motorsports driver Bobby Labonte also had an engine failure, thus creating a lot of concern as all three lease engines from Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick drivers (Johnson, Gordon, Earnhardt and Kahne) didn’t have any engine problems, but seemed to be noticeably down on horsepower.
If there is concern, the drivers aren’t trying to show it. Stewart told reporters that he’s ”not really concerned about it. … Pretty confident it’ll be fine.”
Stewart, Patrick and Labonte will all have to start at the rear of the field in their qualifying races next Thursday after changing their individual engines.
