Norwegian skier’s premature celebration almost costs him gold medal

Biathlon - Winter Olympics Day 11

Norwegian skier Emil Hegle Svendsen was about to convincingly win the men’s 15-kilometer mass start Tuesday when he foolishly raised his hands in victory before crossing the finish line.

His opponent, France’s Martin Fourcade saw the gaff and was almost able to extend his body enough to snatch away Svendsen’s win.

Luckily for the Norwegian, he eeked out the victory by the slimmest of margins. Photographer Richard Heathcote captured the very moment, via the Huffington Post.
