Prune juiced: 80-year-old weightlifter busted for steroids


The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced Friday that 80-year-old weightlifter Don Ramos of Colorado Springs CO has been banned for two years after he tested positive for steroids.

USADA was contracted to test the Pan American Masters Weightlifting Championships, which is an event for athletes 35 and older, in Chicago, Ill.  June 14 – June 16, 2013. Ramos, 80, tested positive for the presence of a steroid of exogenous origin as the result of an in-competition urine sample collected on June 14, 2013 while he was attempting to set a world record.

Ramos, currently the USA Weightlifting Masters National Champion for the 80- to 84-year-old weight class (yes, there is such a thing), has been lifting competitively for some time now, but apparently needed a little performance boost as of late to keep him going.
