Tampa Bay Devils manager Joe Maddon had some nice things to say about reigning American League Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera.
And some not-so-nice things as well.
Cabrera gestured toward the Rays dugout and made some comments after Fernando Rodney threw a high pitch close to the head, a pitch Maddon said had “no ill intent”
“This guy is outstanding, he’s wonderful,” Maddon said Sunday, after the Rays 3-1 home win over the Tigers, via John Lowe of USA TODAY Sports.
“I just wish he wouldn’t cry so much.”
Tigers manager Jim Leyland didn’t accuse Rodney outright of throwing at Cabrera, but said “to throw up there in that area is not acceptable. Somebody pays a price for that throughout baseball. That’s the way baseball is. There’s no free lunch.”
