Members of congress to Redskins’ Dan Snyder: change your offensive team nameon May 29th, 2013 at 6:53 AM
Ten members of congress are stepping up efforts to convince the Washington Redskins to do away with their team name.
They’ve fired off letters to Skins’ owner Dan Snyder, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Redskins sponsor FedEx, and all other 31 teams, citing that the name of the team is offensive to Native Americans.
You really can’t argue with that, but changing a team name overnight isn’t going to happen, at least not while Snyder is owner. He stated previously that he’ll never change it. The letter says that ”Native Americans throughout the country consider the ‘R-word’ a racial, derogatory slur akin to the ‘N-word’ among African Americans or the ‘W-word’ among Latinos.”
