So close: Yu Darvish’s perfect game broken up on final out

Yu DarvishTalk about a let down. The 2013 MLB season just started and we almost had our first perfect game. If only Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Dravish could’ve put away career .234 hitter Marwin Gonzalez.

On 110 pitches, Darvish retired the first 26 batters that the Houston Astros sent to the plate, but he was no match for the lethal Gonzalez. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Gonzalez smacked a 91-mph 4-seam fastball that went thru Yu’s legs, and that was that.

At least he’s not alone in his almost perfect game – Darvish becomes the 11th pitcher in MLB history to lose a perfect game with 26 outs.
