Blind pole vaulter qualifies for state championships

Aria Ottmueller

We don’t know how she did it, but dammit she did…

Arizona teenager Aria Ottmueller is blind, and although she can’t see, she can vault the f&^k out of a pole! She qualified this week for the Arizona State Track and Field Championships.

Ottmueller actually can see just a tiny bit. She technically has 20/400 vision, which means she can see basic shapes. “When I’m pole vaulting, I can’t see the pit. I can’t really see anything,” Ottmueller told the Arizona Republic. “I’ve always not liked being on the ground as much as I like being in the air. I was talking to one of my coaches, and he’s like, ‘She’s not pole vaulting,’ and I’m like, ‘Yes, I am.’
