The NRA and NASCAR: a match made in heaven

NASCAR and the NRAThe bastion of gun-rights advocates and right-wing crackpots alike, the National Rifle Association, is putting it’s name on the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway in April, reports the Star-Telegram.

April 13th will be the date for the new “NRA 500.” Speedway president Eddie Gossage announced the one-year deal Monday.

“This isn’t a political platform. This is a sports marketing opportunity,” Gossage said. “Demographically, it’s a perfect match.”

And what a perfect match it will be. We’ll go out on a limb here and guess that if you love NASCAR, you love your guns too. No word yet if Pabst Blue Ribbon is looking to join in on the sponsorship deal.

“I think it’s great. I mean, the NRA is our core fan base,” driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. said.
